Chakka Puzhukkum irach varattiyathum / Mashed Jackfruit with beef

  A.Chakka Puzhukku / Mashed Jackfruit

Ingredients
  1. Unripe jackfruit – 5 cups. cleaned, pitted and roughly chopped 
  2. Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  3. Coconut oil.
  4. Curry leaves – 1 – 2 sprigs 
  5. Salt – To taste
  6. For preparing paste:
  7. Grated coconut – 1.5 cup 
  8. Garlic – 2 – 3
  9. Green chillies – 4 – 5 or red 
  10. Shallot – 4-4 nos.
  11. Curry leaves.


Methods of Preparation:

1. Boil the chopped jackfruit with enough water, turmeric powder and salt. Cover and cook until done, stirring in between.
2. Grind the coconut, green chillies, garlic, shallots and curry leaves, keep aside. 
3. When the jackfruit is done, add the ground coconut mixture and let it cook for a few minutes. When it done switch of the flame.  

4. Add a few curry leaves and a tbsp of coconut oil, Close the lid and keep it for 10 mins.
5. Serve hot with beef  varattiyathu, mulaku chammanthi, thenga chammanthi or fish curry.
B. Irach varattiyathu / Beef roast
Ingredients:
  1. Beef – ½  kg(cut into small pieces)
  2. Onion – 2 cups.
  3. Garlic – 1 tbspn.
  4. Ginger – 1 tbspn.
  5. Greenchillies – 4-5 nos.
  6. Tomato – ½ cup.
  7. Mustard seeds – 1 tsp.
  8. Curry leaves.
  9. Coriander powder – 2 tsp.
  10. Chilly powder – 2tsp.
  11. Turmeric powder – ½ tsp.
  12. Garam Masala – 1 tsp.
  13. Pepper powder – 1 tsp.
  14. Salt
  15. Oil.
Methods of Preparation:
1. Cook beef with 1 tsp. of coriander powder and chilly powder, 1/2 tsp. of turmeric powder, garam masala and salt.
2. Heat 1 tbspn of coconut oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, onion, green chillies, ginger, garlic and curry leaves.Saute till the onion becomes brown in color.
3.Add tomato. When the tomato become mashes add chilly powder, turmeric powder, coriander powder, Pepper powder, garam masala and pinch of salt.
4. Add cooked beef to this mixture, and again mix well.
5. Reduce the flame and cook it become dry and nice aroma comes.
8. Now our delicious beef roast / ularthiyathu is ready. Serve hot with chakka puzhukku.
