Puttu ( steamed rice cake) is the most popular breakfast dish of Kerala. Almost always
served with the Kerala kadala curry, banana or pappadam. Puttu – kadala curry is a humble yet
healthy and filling breakfast combination that takes minimum time and effort to
make.

Preparation

Serves :4
Ingredients:
1.
Black channa (kadala) – 1cup.
2.
Grated coconut – 1cup.
3.
Onion - 1 chopped.
4.
Garlic paste– 1 tsp.
5.
Ginger paste -1 tsp.
6.
Green chilli – 1 chopped.
7.
Tomato – 1 chopped.
8.
Curry leaves.
9.
Coriander powder – 2 tsp.
10.
Chilli powder – 1tsp.
11.
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp.
12.
Garam masala – ½ tsp.
13.
Fennel seeds – 1tsp.
14.
Salt to taste.

Water

Oil – 2 tsp.
Method
of preparation
1. Wash black channa, soak over
night.
2.Cook it with enough water and
salt.
3.Heat oil in a pan.
4.Add finely chopped onions,
green chillies, curry leaves, ginger and garlic paste, and fry, till the onions
turn brown.
5.Add chopped tomato and stir
well, till tomato blends.
6.Add coriander powder, turmeric powder, chilly
powder, garam masala and stir well, till
the aroma of masala comes out.
7.Add black channa and enough
water and cook, till water starts boiling.
8.Add coconut paste and stir well.
9.Allow kadala curry to boil.
10.Serve kadala curry hot with puttu,
appam, rotis, chappathis or even bread.
11.Best combination of kadala
curry is with puttu. Enjoy!!!
