Kerala Puttu The Real Taste of Kerala പുട്ട്

           
Kerala Puttu
       Puttu ( steamed rice cake) is the most popular  breakfast dish of Kerala. Almost always served with the Kerala kadala curry, banana or pappadam. puttu is a humble yet healthy and filling breakfast that takes minimum time and effort to make.

Preparation time: 10 minutes 
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Ingredients
1.     Rice powder ( Puttu podi) - 2 cups.
2.     Grated coconut – ½ cup.
3.     Water.
4.     Salt to taste. 
Methods of preparation
1.Mix the rice flour and salt in a bowl. Add the water little at a time and mix with your fingertips, and make it a crumbly and moist flour consistency.
2.You need to use a puttu maker (steaming apparatus) to make puttu.
3.Add about 1-2 tbsp greated coconut to the bottom of the mould.
4.Spoon in the puttu flour until the mould is halfway filled. Then add another layer of coconut and fill up the rest with the flour.
5.Steam for about 10 minutes. ( it depends up on the size of your mould.)
6.When cooked, unmould by pressing through the mould using  a spatula, gently.
7.Let it cool down a bit before serving with a spicy kadala curry, banana, or pappadam.
