Kootu Curry - Kerala Sadhya |
Sadya, is a typical feast of the people of Kerala. The main dish is plain boiled rice, served along with other dishes, which include curries like Parippu, Sambar,Rasam, Pulisseri and other like Kaalan, kootu curry, Avial, Thoran, Olan, Pachadi, Mango pickle, Naranga curry, as well as Papadum, Banana, plain Yogurt orButtermilk, and plantain chips etc. Let's see how we can prepare the Kootu curry.....
Ingredients
1.
Black chickpeas (kadala) – 1 cup, soaked
overnight

Yam (chena) – 1 cup, diced
3.
Raw Plantain (pacha kaya) – 1 cup,
diced
4.
Grated coconut – ¾ cup
5.
Turmeric powder – ¼ tsp
6.
Water – 1.5 cups
7.
Green chilli – 2, chopped
8.
Cumin – 1 tsp.
9.
Chilli powder – 1 tsp
10. Black Pepper – 1 tsp.
11. Jaggery – 2tsp.
12. Salt.
To temper
1.
Mustard seeds – ¼ tsp
2.
Dried red chilli – 2
3.
Curry leaves
4.
Coconut oil
Method of
Preparation:
1. Cook the soaked black chana
with 1.5 cups water, drain the excess water.
2. Grind together coconut, 2 green
chillies, turmeric powder, cumin, chilli powder and 2 tbsp water to a coarse
paste.
3. Take a pan, to this add diced yam and raw
plantain with 1.5 cups water, ¼ tsp turmeric powder and salt. Add cooked chana
to this and mix well. Allow it to boil.
4. Add the coconut mixture and jagerry to this.
Cover and cook on low flame for 5-7 mins. Check for the salt.
5. Heat oil in a pan and splutters the
mustard seeds. Add dried red chilli and curry leaves. Pour this over the kootu
curry.Mix well.
6. Now our kootu curry is ready to serve. Serve with Kerala Sadya. Enjoy!!!.
