Poovada Malabar Dish

Poovada Malabar Dish
      Ada is traditionally a popular snack from Kerala. It is very tasty at the same time very simple to make. Ada can be made with a variety of fillings - like coconut and jaggery, flattened rice ( aval or poha) etc. Here iam preparing ada in Malabar style. Let’s see how we can prepare it…….

Makes : 5
Serves : 3 - 5
Ingredients
1.     Rice flour - 1 cup.
2.     Grated coconut – ¼ cup.
3.     Jaggery – ¼ cup.
4.     Salt.
5.     Water.

Method of  Preparation:
1.In a vessel boil 1 cups of water with salt. When it boils add the rice flour with constant stirring (For 1 cup of rice flour take 1 cup of water). Keep it on simmer for ½ - 1 minutes  and turn of the flame. Close the lid and keep for 5- 10 minutes.
2.Knead the dough thoroughly with your hands by applying water. Do it in a single stretch.
3.Make big lemon sized balls by using this dough.
4.Spread a little oil on your palm and take a ball of dough and start pinching the sides and make a cup shaped moulds.
5. Put one spoonful of the grated coconut and ½ spoon of jiggery in to it and secure all the sides and shape of poovada.
6. Prepare all poovadas by using the rest of the dough.
7. Steam the poovada for 10- 15 mins.
8. Now our poovada is ready to serve.
