Fish Molly / Meen Moliee Kerala Style Fish Preparation

Fish Molly / Meen Molee 
     Fish Molly / Meen Molee, a very popular Kerala fish preparation. Coconut milk and spices give a nice flavor to it. It is a lightly spiced stew based dish. There are many variations of making the fish molly. Let’s see how we can prepare it....

Ingredients

1.     Fish – 500 mg.
2.     Onion - 1 cup.
3.     Garlic - 5 clove.
4.     Ginger – 1” piece.
5.     Green chilly - 5 number.
6.     Tomato - 2 number.
7.     Coconut milk (thin) – 1 cup.
8.     Coconut milk (thick) – ¼  cup.
9.     Curry leaves.
10.   Turmeric powder – ½  tsp.
11.   Pepper powder – 2 tsp.
12.   Coriander powder – 2 tsp.
13.   Lemon juice - 2 tsp.
4.     Vinegar – 2tsp.
15.   Coconut oil.
16.   Salt.
17.   Water.
18.   Mustard seeds – 1tsp.
Methods of Preparation:
  1. Clean the fish, No need to cut it.
  2. Take a bowl and add turmeric powder, pepper powder, lemon juice, salt and some coconut oil; make a nice paste.
  3. Apply this paste over the fish and keep it for ½ hour.
  4. Heat oil in a pan. Shallow fry marinated fish.
  5. On the same pan; pour oil, mustard seeds, fenugreek seeds, curry leaves, onion and some salt. Saute it for 5 mins.
  6. Add ginger, garlic, green chillies and sauté a while.
  7. Add crushed cardamom seeds, turmeric powder, pepper powder and coriander powder.
  8. Add thin coconut milk and enough amount of salt to it. Mix well.
  9.  When it starts to boil; transfer the fried fish to the gravy. Allow it to cook.
  10. Add tomato and vinegar.mix well and cook for five mins.
  11. Finally add thick coconut milk to the gravy, Mix well. Switch of the flame when it starts boil.
  12. Now our meen moilee is ready to serve. Serve hot with rice, Appam etc.
