Chakka Erissery

Chakka Erissery

     Chakka (Jack Fruit) erissery is one of the nostalgic dish from kerala. it is a nice combination with plain rice. Let's see how we can prepare it......

Ingredients

  1. Unripe jackfruit – 5 cups. cleaned, pitted and roughly chopped 
  2. Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
  3. Coconut oil.
  4. Curry leaves – 1 – 2 sprigs 
  5. Salt – To taste
  6. For preparing paste:
     Grated coconut – 1.5 cup 

     Garlic – 2 – 3

     Green chillies – 4 – 5 or red 

     Shallot – 4-4 nos.

     Curry leaves.
7. For tempering:
      Mustard seeds- ½ tsp.
      Whole red chilly – 3-5 nos.
       Curry leaves.
       Coconut oil – 2 tbspn.
       Grated coconut – 1 tbspn.
Methods of Preparation:

1. Take jackfruit in a vessel, add enough amount of water, turmeric powder and salt. Cover and cook until done, stirring in between.
2. Mean time grind the coconut, green chillies, garlic, shallots and curry leaves. And keep aside.  

3.Add the ground coconut mixture, when the jackfruit is done. Let it cook for a few minutes. When it done switch of the flame.  
4. Heat coconut oil in a pan, add mustard seed, whole red chilly, curry leaves and grated coconut. Allow it to become brown colour.

5. Pour this tempering in to our cooked jackfruit and coconut mixture. Mix well.
6. Now our chakka erissery is ready to serve. Serve hot plain rice.
7. Enjoy!!!
