Ingredients
- Raw plantain – 2, medium, cubed.
- Elephant Yam – 1 cup cubed.
- Carrot – 1 cup (optional).
- Ash Guard – ½ cup.
- Chana dal – 1/2 cup.
- Chilly powder – 1 tsp.
- Turmeric powder – ½ tsp.
- Black pepper powder – ½ tsp.
- Jaggery – 2 tbsp or to taste
- Salt – To taste
- Grated coconut – 1 cup
- Cumin seeds – ½ tsp
- Coconut oil – 2 tbsp.
- Mustard seeds – 1/2 tsp
- Dry red chillies – 2 – 3
- Curry leaves – 1 sprig
- Grated coconut – 1/2 cup.
- Urad dal – 1 tsp.

Method of Preparation:
- Soak the chana dal in enough water for at least 1 hour.
- Take an earthen pan. Cook chana dal by adding enough water.
- Tansfer all vegetables to it when dal become half cooked.
- Mean time prepare coconut paste. For this grind coconut and cumine to a coarse paste.
- Add enough amound of salt, pepper powder, turmeric powder and chilly powder when vegetables are cooked well.
- Add jaggary and mix well.
- Then mash cooked vegetables if you want. Transfer the ground coconut mixture to the cooked vegetables and mix well. Check for salt. Cook for a few minutes or until the raw taste of coconut is gone. Switch off.
- Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, when it splutters add whole red chilly, curry leave, urad dal and grated coconut. Roast the grated coconut till they are reddish-brown in color.
- Add this tempering over the koottu curry we already made.
- Mix well.
- Now our tasty koottu curry is ready to serve. Serve hot with rice. Enjoy!!!!

That looks so tempting and mouthwatering! That's one of my favorite dish in Onam sadya and I'm so craving for that. Maybe I'll cook later. ;-) Happy Onam!
