Ingredients
Raw banana / ethakka – 1 medium size cut into thin slices.
Yam – 1/2 cup, sliced.
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Pepper powder – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – A few
Salt- To taste
Ghee – 1.5 tsp
Roasted fenugreek powder – 1/4 tsp
Curd- 1 cup.
Water – 1 cup
For seasoning:
Mustard seeds – ½ tsp.
Whole red chilli – 3-4 nos.
Curry leaves.
Coconut oil – 2 tbspn.
To make coconut paste:
Grated
coconut – 1cup
Cumin seeds – 1/2 tsp
Green chilies – 4.

Method of Preparation:
Cut raw banana / ethakka and yam in to thin slices.
Grind coconut with cumin seeds and green chilies to a
very fine paste.
Take a earthen pot. Cook raw banana, yam with
turmeric powder, pepper powder and enough amount of water.
Add enough
amount of salt when vegetables cooked well. Allow to evapourate water.
Add beaten curd and some curry leaves when the water
is almost evaporated. Stir continously about 10 mins. In a medium flame until
curd thickens.
Pour ghee and stir again.
Then transfer the ground coconut mixture enough amount
of salt, mix well.
Cook for few minute or until it just starts to boil,
sprinkle roasted fenugreek powder and remove from stove.
Heat 2 tbspn. of coconut oil in a pan. Add mustrd
seeds, when it splutter, then add whole red chilly and curry leaves. Saute for
few seconds and pour over the prepared kalan.
Mix well and cover the lid with 5 – 10 mins.
Now our yummy and tasty Kurukku kalan is ready to serve. Serve
hot with rice. Enjoy!!!!
