Ingredients:
For filling:
- Grated coconut- 1 cup.
- Grated jaggery – ½ - ¾ cup.
- Cumin powder – ½ tsp.
- Cardamom powder – ½ tsp.
- Ripped banana – ½ cup (optional)
For dough:
- Rice flour – 2 cups.
- Salt.
- Boiling water.
- Other ingredients:
- Plantain leaf / banana leaf.
Elayada Traditional Kerala Snack
Method
of Preparation:
- Cut Plantain leaf to desired sized and nicely heat it.( other wise it may break)
- Mix together jaggery, grated coconut, cumin powder, cardamom powder and banana pieces in a bowl. Keep aside.
- Take rice flour in a mixing bowl, add salt and mix well. Make it to a thick dough ( like Idiyappam dough) by adding boiling water little by little.
- Wet your fingers. Take a lemon size of dough, spread it over the plantain leaf with your fingers.
- Place a table spoon of filling over it; spread it over the rice dough.
- Then fold the plantain leaf from middle to one side.
Elayada Traditional Kerala Snack - Get ready with a steamer; Cook all elayadas in a steamer. Steam it about 10-15 mins.
- Remove it from the steamer when it done.
- Now our yummy and tasty elayada is ready to serve. Serve hot. Enjoy!!!
