Ingredients
  • Pavakka (bitter gourd) – 2 medium size
  • Green chilly – 3-4 nos.
  • Curry leaves.
  • Coconut oil
  • Salt
For grinding:
  • Grated coconut – ½ cup
  • Mustard – ¼ tsp
  • Yogurt – ½ – 1 cup
For tempering:
  • Coconut oil – 2 Tbspn.
  • Mustard – ½ tsp
  • Shallots  – 2-3
  • Whole red chilly – 2
  • Curryleaves.

Method of Preparation:
  1. Cut bitter guard into thin slices.
  2. Heat oil in a pan and fry the bitter guard pieces till it becomes golden brown color, make sure that it doesn’t get burnt. Add curry leaves and green chilly to it when the bitter guard becomes golden brown color.
  3. Crush the fried bitter guard, add salt to it. Keep it aside.
  4. Grind the coconut by adding mustard seeds and some yogurt to a fine paste. Then add this coconut mixture to fried bitter guard. Mix well.
  5. Heat oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, add curry leaves, whole red chilly & sliced shallots. Fry it till the shallots become golden brown and pour this over the bitter guard mix.
  6. Now our tasty pavakka kichadi is ready to serve, Serve hot with rice. Enjoy!!!!
